New Invisible Hearing Aid from Widex

April 5th, 2012 by Paul Minikin

Widex have announced their first foray into IIC (invisible in canal) hearing aids, due to launch in May. There has been a trend in the last year or two for manufacturers to supply tiny hearing aids that sit so deep in the ear canal as to make them invisible or virtually so. With advances in shell technology and manufacturing techniques it has become possible for hearing aids to be supplied smaller and more discreet than ever before.

There are some limitations to do with the shape and dimensions of the individual ear canal, and some contra-indications that rule out such devices, but the majority of potential clients can expect a really very discreet solution if that is what is desired. (Not everyone has the smallest hearing aid possible as the top priority when looking to address their hearing loss).

With Widex entering this growing market for very small and invisible hearing aids that means that the majority of hearing aid manufacturers in the UK will now offer this type of product which tends to appeal particularly to younger clients and also people thinking of wearing hearing aids for the first time.

Our understanding is that these new IIC hearing aids will not take advantage of the groundbreaking wireless capabilities of the latest Clear range of Widex hearing aids, because of the limited amount of space in a deep fitting hearing aid there just is no room for wireless technology!

We will post more details as they become available.

Widex Clear 330 and 220 join the Widex Clear 440

May 30th, 2011 by Paul Minikin

Widex have released the stablemates of the recently launched Widex Clear 440 range of hearing aids, the Clear 330 and 220, all based on the new C-ISP platform with great wireless capabilities built in.

Widex have decided to tidy up and revamp the Clear range. The only remaining vestiges of the old range is the entry level Widex Real, based on the old ISP chipset and showing its age a little now.

Everything above the Widex Real is badged as Clear 440, 330 or 220 level.

The Widex Clear 220 is mid range technology, generally suitable for quieter lifestyles but still with lots of features including the DEX range of wireless accessories (the DEX is compatible with the whole range of Widex Clear hearing aids, including the Clear Passion range).

The Widex Clear 330 range are advanced level with more features capable of dealing with difficult noisier environments and the Clear 440 of course being the premium product with the best capabilities and smartest technology.

All three levels of Widex Clear have all the variants of form factor, from the traditional BTE, to ITC to CIC, and the Clear Passion and new Clear Fusion RIC versions too.

The Mind 440, 330 and 220 have been superceded by the Clear 440, 330 and 220 respectively.

The Passion 440, 115, 110 and 105 have been replaced by the Clear Passion 440, 330 and 220 and the Clear Fusion 440, 330 and 220 are of course a completely new product style.

Unfortunately the availablility of the ITC and CIC versions of the Clear 440, 330 and 220 have been delayed slightly from launch but should be available within a few weeks of launch of the rest of the range, our advice is to wait rather than ordering the old Widex Mind technology.

Well done to Widex for making life more simple for us all, maybe some of the other manufacturers could see what Widex have done and take a leaf out of their book…

Widex REAL | Discount Hearing Aids

May 5th, 2011 by Paul Minikin

Widex REAL is the entry level hearing aid in the Widex range, it’s been available since 2009 and is an affordable way for price conscious hearing aid wearers to use the renowned Widex hearing aid technology.

Widex REAL comes with the unique Widex signal processing platform, ISP. This technology continuously controls and coordinates all functions in the hearing aid automatically in response to changes in the listening environment. ISP helps the user to hear sounds naturally, comfortably and clearly.

Face-to-face conversation is intelligible and loud sounds remain comfortable with the REAL EDRC compression system.

With the REAL Classic noise reduction the user can move around in noisy environments in comfort, even in a shop or a crowd.

The Feedback canceller helps diminishing any annoying whistling and feedback.

The Locator automatically adjusts the sound to the situation, no matter what the environment. You hear better in everything from wind noise to conversations at a party.

Widex REAL is available in a wide range of models to suit every type of hearing loss. From discreet micro, mini and power behind-the-ear (BTE) hearing aids to a completely-in-canal (CIC) and an in-the-ear (ITE), the Widex REAL series has a model for you.

Widex FUSION | Discount Hearing Aids

May 4th, 2011 by Paul Minikin

Widex FUSION is one of the new models in the Widex CLEAR440 series of wireless hearing aids. Widex FUSION is a RIC type of product which suits most types of hearing loss, from minimal to severe to profound.

Widex FUSION can be supplied with three different power levels of receivers, as well as various ear-tip and custom earmould options to suit all needs.

As Widex FUSION is part of the Widex CLEAR family, FUSION uses WidexLink – the first wireless technology designed specifically for hearing aids – DEX listening devices;

TV-DEX – TV without echo

Watching television can sometimes be a challenge for hearing aid users. With our TV-DEX, high quality audio is streamed with no delay straight to your hearing aid.

* No delays or echoes: The main advantage of the TV-DEX is its real time hi-fi quality sound. You experience TV or audio sound exactly as it was intended – without annoying delays or echoes.

* Room Off: With the TV-DEX you can temporarily switch the hearing aid’s microphone off and hear the TV sound only – we call this ‘Room Off’ – meaning you can enjoy your favourite TV programme without unnecessary background noise.

* 10 hours battery: The TV-DEX delivers up to 10 hours of uninterrupted, top quality TV or audio sound between recharging of controller.

M-DEX – Mobile

Compatible with most mobile phones, the M-DEX reproduces phone conversations directly in your hearing aid.

* Room Off: A unique feature of the M-DEX is what we call ‘Room Off’.  This turns the hearing aids’ microphones off temporarily so you can only hear your mobile – allowing you to concentrate on the conversation without being disturbed by surrounding sounds.

* Remote control: The M-DEX can also be used as an advanced remote control for volume and program shift.

* FreeFocus: M-DEX can also be used in FreeFocus mode. FreeFocus lets you focus in selected directions, such as left, right and behind, without having to turn your head.

RC-DEX

The RC-DEX is a stylish and user-friendly remote control that gives you control of hearing aid functions like volume and programs.

* Intuitive in use: Small enough to fit on a keychain, the RC-DEX is intelligently laid out with three simple keys. This means that you can quickly and easily start using it.

* Feature activation: As features are activated, verbal or tone cues let you know. An LED indicator on the remote control also shows when it is activated.

Even with FUSION’s small housing, there is room for a 312 battery, which is easy to handle and has an extremely long battery life and excellent performance.

Widex FUSION has a number of important features of note;

The Phone+ feature processes and transmits phone signals from one hearing aid to the other without delay. This means that for the first time, you can hear mobile and landline phone calls in both hearing aids without the use of extra devices.

Disturbance from wind noise is a common challenge. FUSION features a new and improved microphone cover that significantly reduces wind noise.

A new stable, robust telecoil is designed specifically to fit in FUSION’s small housing, meaning that it’s easier to use in more listening situations.
